Jammu, Jul 07 (KNO): The under construction All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Jammu has been planning to set up an Advanced Forensic Institute aimed at swift examination of evidence and fast track disposal of criminal and terror related cases, the hospital sources said. As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the center will work to streamline the investigation in the entire Northern Sector of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh besides Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, which are presently depending upon the facility at Gujarat. “Geographically Jammu and Kashmir is very sensitive with a large potential to Terror, Narco Terror, and Gun related Crimes as it share International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LOC) with Pakistan besides sharing states borders with Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, an officer said, adding, “There is possibility of involvement of criminals from different states and different nations which poses a major challenge to the Police and Defense Forces.” “To address this challenge, AIIMS Jammu has been setting up AFSL which will collect, examine and analyze the evidence,” the officer said. “As of now investigating agencies including state policies and defence forces depend upon Gujarat Forensic Laboratory for reports in crime and terror related incidents. The process usually took months and hampers the whole investigation process,” he maintained. Official sources said that the department will have trained Crime Scene Officers who can effectively process the crime scene so as to identify, Document, Photograph, Retrieve & Transfer the Evidence materials to the Laboratory for Examination. The center will have dead body management in mass disaster situations, which is an important issue related with the region and its impact on surroundings is the possibility of Natural and Man Made Disasters. Beside this a start of art morgue has been also planned for the forensic examination of the dead person to further examination, documentation and retrieval of samples. The well-equipped morgue could store bodies for purpose or pending tracing of the family members or identity of the victim—(KNO)
